A
member of the world-conquering Golden Eaglets, Chidera Eze, has
received offers from two English Premier League sides, Liverpool and
Manchester City....
The attacker was a part of the Nigerian U-17 side that emerged World Champions at the FIFA tournament held in the UAE.
The player, who had been linked to clubs in the Portuguese league, is now set to travel to Manchester City with his family members for further negotiations, according to his agent, Babawo Mohammed.
“We have two clubs now interested in him, one is Liverpool and two is Manchester city but as I’m talking to you right now Manchester city has already sent their invitation letter for him and his family to travel to London.
“Manchester City’s deal was brokered by a director at his academy in Lagos, Shuttle FC,” Mohammed said.
The agent also revealed that a meeting was held with Liverpool FC officials in Abuja some weeks ago; and the club offered to put Chidera in their U19 football squad till he turns 18.
“Yes we discussed with Liverpool in Abuja, they give us their terms. Although we have not yet signed with Liverpool, he (Chidera) is going to Manchester city to see what they want to offer so they can compare it with Liverpool’s offer.
“Liverpool have offered him to sign so that he can be with the U19 team for one year, so after he turns 18 they will promote him to the main team,” the agent said.
He also explained the details of the contract Liverpool offered the teenager.
“There’s transfer fee and salaries and other things, the offered to give £500, 000 (N125 million) clearance fee to his academy. They also offered to go into partnership with the academy, for business. They offered to pay him £120, 000 (N30 million) per year and will pay £150, 000 (N37.5 million) per year when he turns 18-years-old,” he said.
Mohammed added that “Manchester city has shown interest but have not tabled their own offer.”
Chidera could not be reached as he did not pick his calls.
Manchester City is also in pole position to sign another member of the Golden Eaglets, Kelechi Iheanacho, whose father told the media last week that the negotiation with the English team was at the final stage.
Kelechi was voted Most Valuable Player, MVP, of the FIFA U17 World Cup.
