Wayne Rooney pleased with Alex Ferguson retraction

Wayne Rooney has thanked Sir Alex Ferguson for what he believes was a retraction of his suggestion that he handed in a transfer request at Manchester United last summer, in comments that may be viewed with cynicism by some observers....

Speaking after Manchester United's 1-0 Champions League win against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford, Rooney took the opportunity to respond to Ferguson's comments on his position at the club in his much-discussed autobiography.
While the departed United boss confirmed that Rooney had not handed in a written transfer request to leave at the end of last season, he maintained his stance that the striker "wanted away" from Old Trafford, and yet the player in the eye of the publicity storm chose to offer a diplomatic response to the Ferguson's claims.
"Thankfully he has gone back and corrected the story that I put a transfer request in," Rooney told Sky Sports. "He has gone back and proved that I haven't and I'm thankful to him for that.
"He has got his own opinion and I have not really said anything about it all along. I haven't seen him since he retired, I'm happy under the new management and we are working to get results under David Moyes and his coaching staff. That's the main thing for me and the other stuff doesn't concern me.
"That's all in the past now and I'm looking to the future. It feels like I've had a new lease of life now. I'm really enjoying working under David Moyes and his coaching staff and we are working to try and be successful for the team.
"We have a lot of players coming into the team tonight fighting for places and even though the results haven't been what we want, we are all working towards being successful."
