The youngster had been using a protective boot in recent weeks but it was decided by club doctors on Saturday that the midfielder would require surgical treatment, and he has now confirmed that the operation went smoothly.
Speaking via his Twitter account, Wilshere said: "Had my operation and all went well! I am feeling good will spend the night in hospital to monitor me but apart from that I am happy!"
It is thought that the injury will keep Wilshere sidelined until the end of the year, therefore ruling last season's PFA Young Player of the Year out of England's final Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro on October 7, as well as Arsenal's upcoming Premier League fixtures against the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea.
