Nigeria’s Football Federation (NFF) has again dropped goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama from the decisive 2012 Nations Cup qualifier against Guinea on October 8.
Lille goalkeeper Enyeama was left out of another crucial qualifier away in Madagascar earlier this month after he led a players’ revolt that questioned the team’s travel plans to Antananarivo.
Enyeama, first-choice goalkeeper since the 2002 World Cup, has since apologised for his role in the mutiny and coach Samson Siasia has accepted it.
However, top NFF officials said that it was agreed by the nation’s football authority to sideline the goalkeeper so as to make the point very clear that no player is indispensible.
It would also be recalled that Siasia dropped West Bromwich Albion striker Osaze Odemwingie in June after he walked out on the team before a friendly in Abuja against Kenya. Israel-based Austin Ejide now replaced Enyeama in the final squad for the Guinea game with Dele Aiyenugba, who was in goal against both Madagascar and the friendly against Argentina in Bangladesh.
Nigeria need to win at least 2-0 to finish top of Group B and qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup to be hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in January.
They are currently second behind group leaders Guinea with 10 points from five matches.
Madagascar and Ethiopia are the other teams in their qualifying group.
