Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, has made it clear that he wants to play upfront for the club.
The player, who has handed in a transfer request and is linked with a move to Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, is set to sit down with new manager David Moyes, to discuss his future.....
However, a key factor in the negotiations might be his desire to play through the middle – a position that Robin van Persie has made his own in just his first season.
The England international has been deployed in a deep-lying midfield role and has become disenchanted at being substituted regularly.
"I've played up front on my own a few times for Manchester United and it's a role I'm very comfortable with and have no problems playing," he said in the July edition of FourFourTwo magazine.
"When you play as a target man, you have to stay up front and help the team out by holding the ball up and waiting for support. That all comes with experience.
"It's a good role for me to play, and hopefully I can continue doing well there."
