Strikers Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck are injury worries for
Manchester United after both suffered problems in their club's 3-2 defeat to Yokohama F Marinos in Japan....
Van Persie was substituted with a minor thigh injury while Welbeck, who finished the game, struggled with a groin problem.
United were already without another forward - although manager David Moyes expects Wayne Rooney to recover from his hamstring injury in time to face AIK Solna on August 6.
"We've got a couple of wee worries," the United boss told MUTV. "Robin just felt his thigh in the first half, and we didn't want to take any chances.
"Danny Welbeck felt his groin when he came on and we've just got to make
sure they're all OK, especially with so many games coming up. We've
still got a few games to play before the season starts when we get back
home."
Midfielder Michael Carrick sat out the defeat with a groin problem, while Rio Ferdinand was rested.
Moyes added: "With Rio, we just decided to give him a rest. I wanted to
get Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling a game, so we rested Rio.
Michael just felt his groin. It's a bit tight from last night. It's not
anything we can see keeping him out. He just missed training and the
game."
Chris Smalling and Ashley Young made their first appearances of United’s pre-season tour.
Jesse Lingard, who had struck twice in their 5-1 win
against an Australian A-League XI, maintained his form with another
goal and Masakazu Tashiro put the ball in his own net for United’s other
goal.
However, Yoshihito Fujita scored a late winner for the home team to condemn United to defeat.
