Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Steven Fletcher has confirmed he has handed in a transfer request.
Sunderland have made a bid to take Scotland international Fletcher, 25, to the Stadium of Light and reports had suggested a move was imminent, although Wolves denied that was the case..
Chief executive Jez Moxey told the Express and Star on Wednesday: "Rumours that we have accepted a bid from Sunderland are incorrect. They want the player, but we haven't accepted anything."
Fletcher announced later on Wednesday that he has now asked to leave Molineux.
He tweeted: "Just handed in a transfer request just to let the fans know where I am at right now.... #headsgone"
